Mr. Sgobbo was born in San Diego, California, and grew up in Princeton, New Jersey. He attended Haverford College in Pennsylvania, earning his BA in Political Science, and holds Masters degrees from Pace University and Columbia University. After graduating from Haverford, he joined Teach for America, teaching in a 3rd Grade Special Education Inclusion classroom at PS 42 in the South Bronx. Mr. Sgobbo joined Uncommon Schools in 2011 as the Special Education Coordinator of Excellence Boys Charter School. Since then, he has also been a classroom teacher for 3rd Grade, 4th Grade and 5th Grade Math at Excellence Boys, and most recently, the Acting Principal of Leadership Prep Brownsville.
Director of Operations
Mr. Herman was born and raised on a farm in the small, rural town of Mount Vernon, Maine. After high school, he attended college at American University in Washington, DC where he studied International Relations and Education. After graduation, he joined Teach for America in Washington, DC and began teaching 4th and 5th grade at a dual language public elementary school while also earning his master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from George Mason University. After three years of teaching, Mr. Herman moved to Brooklyn where he joined the operations team at Excellence Boys Charter School. Beginning as an office manager, he has held all of the roles on an operations team while serving as Acting Director of Operations at Ocean Hill Collegiate for the 2015-2016 school year.
